Arizona Theatre Company Goes Around the World

I recently posted about productions of Around the World in 80 Days in India and Turkey but if you're not going to be passing by either of those countries you can stop by the foreign country of Arizona* to see 80 Days at the Arizona Theatre Company. The show is being directed by David P. Saar. The cast includes Mark Anders, Jon Gentry, Yolanda London, Kyle Sorrell and Bob Sorenson. I don't know any of those people. It always makes me [...]

Sing Along With Frozen

Frozen, Disney's animated-musical phenomenon, is about to kick it up a notch. Disney announced that it will be releasing a sing-along version of the film starting Jan 31. This new version of the film will include the lyrics of each musical number on the screen, with a bouncing snowflake to help audiences follow along as they sing out loud together. With the Frozen soundtrack topping the charts, we’re willing to bet that a lot of you already know all the [...]

Around the World in 80 Days – Turkey

I think this is the floor of the set. Cool. The other day I wrote about the B Street Theatre taking Around the World in 80 Days to India. Well my assault on Asia continues with the opening of Around the World in 80 Days at Erzurum State Theatre in Erzurum, Turkey. (Before you start yelling that I'm geographically challenged, Turkey is a transcontinental country with an Asian–European boundary. You see? This site is educational as well). First Translation of Around the [...]

Tom Jones to Premiere at Florida Studio Theatre

My new play, Tom Jones, will get its world premiere at the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, FL this spring! I've been waiting for the official press release to come out before I said anything and lo and behold it appeared in the Sarasota Herald Tribune today. I'm thrilled and nervous (my perpetual state of mind, minus the thrilled) to have a new play hit the stage. And I'm very excited that Florida Studio Theatre is doing the world premiere. FST produced Around the [...]

Harry Potter Expands at Universal Orlando

I'm a Harry Potter geek, I'll admit it. So you can imagine how excited I was when Universal Orlando released their Webcast about the summer of 2014 opening of Diagon Alley. Universal opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade in 2010 and it was a huge success. I have to admit I was surprised Universal did such a good job because up until then they're track record wasn't the best. But The Wizarding World of Harry [...]

The Clown’s Prayer

*Warning: Today's post has received a 5-star Maudlin rating. The Clown's Prayer Keeps Me On Track There are many days I question if my mid-life career choice to become a writer was a good one. Hell, I question whether my beginning-life career choice to be an actor was a good one. My older sister is a retired physical therapist and my older brother is a mucky muck with Siemen's. And then there's me. I write plays, screenplays and songs. Mostly [...]

Commonweal Theatre to go Around the World

I received a nice email today from the fantastically named Jeremy van Meter, the Communications Manager and a Resident Actor at the Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro, MN, informing me that they will be producing Around the World in 80 Days this year. Fantastic. But then Jeremy told me the population of Lanesboro, MN. 754. As I posted yesterday, the B Street Theatre is about to take Around the World in 80 Days to India, where they'll perform in Mumbai, a city with [...]

Here Lies Love Returns to the Public Theatre

Here Lies Love, the fantastic musical about Imelda Marcos by David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim, is returning to the Public Theatre starting March 24th for an open-ended run. My tip of the day is get your tickets now! Last year Here Lies Love was the hottest ticket in New York City and for good reason: it's terrific. Here's what the Public Theatre has to say about the show: "Within a pulsating dance club atmosphere, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim deconstruct [...]

B Street Takes Around the World in 80 Days to India

Back in 2004, the B Street Theatre in Sacramento, CA was one of first theatres to produce Around the World in 80 Days. The B Street was having financial troubles and my show was just getting its legs. The production was a smash hit. It extended three times and ran for an ironical total of 80 days. "An antic and hilarious stage tour de force that delighted the nearly full house at the B Street Theatre."  - Sacramento Bee More importantly, [...]
