Bruce Springsteen played Stayin' Alive!? Holy moly I'd never thought I'd see the day. Springsteen is certainly stayin' alive these days. On the final night of his tour in Australia, Bruce played a marathon show that included a fantastic cover of the Bee Gees hit song Stayin' Alive, teaming up with Eddie Vedder for a cover of the AC/DC hit Highway to Hell, and what could possibly be world record group twerk. I've been a huge Springsteen fan [...]
Over the years there have been many terrific covers of the beautiful Rodgers and Hart song My Funny Valentine: Chet Baker, Elvis Costello, Sarah, Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Chris Botti with Sting, and of course Miles Davis. But I think the most mesmerizing (albeit controversial performance) of the song was by Alice Fredenham. Alice Fredenham Wows on Britain's Got Talent Alice Fredenham sang My Funny Valentine on Britain's Got Talent in 2013. She appeared nervous and insecure but then sang the daylights out [...]
How is is that two Russian daredevils scaled the Shanghai Tower and I was the one who pooped his pants? The two climbers, Vadim Makhorov and Vitaliy Raskalov, make up the duo 'On The Roofs.' They've already climbed Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, Cologne's Cathedral, and the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame in Paris. But those seem like child's play compared to the Shanghai Tower. And they do it all without ropes or harnesses. I can't make it to the second floor [...]
China has been rolling out safe havens, little shelters, where parents can abandon their child without fear of facing charges or revealing their identity. At Guangzhou's first safe haven, 51 children were abandoned in the first 13 days of operation, according to China Daily. Not all the children were babies. Some were 5 and 6 years old. But all of the children were critically ill or disabled. There's been a lot of controversy about the program, as some feel it will just [...]
Rarely do I post a straight up article from the AP but this story about a Russian activist being sent to prison for three years for spray painting a fence is hashtag cray-cray. And he was found guilty of swearing at a bus stop, a hooliganism charge. Holy f**k. Swearing at a bust stop is a mother f**king hooliganism charge? I'm not moving to f**king Russia. I'd be in deep s**t for swearing too d**n f**king much. I'd like to see [...]
The other week I posted about the B Street Theatre going to India with their production of Around the World in 80 Days. Today there's a nice article by Marcus Chowder in the Sacramento Bee about B Street's first international tour. I shall now magically pull the quotes that are most favorable to me. "Busfield pitched 'Lobby Hero' again and got nowhere. But when he told them about Mark Brown’s broadly performed satire 'Around the World in 80 Days,' they were [...]
Fart Olympics is childish, immature and completely sophomoric. Which is why I love it so much. They guys over at Ghost+Cow Films have won a Gold Medal with their Olympic Fart Figure Skating video. My body may be middle aged but my mind is still that of a 10-year old boy.
Neon Trees has released their new single Sleeping With A Friend, from their album "Pop Psychology," which will be released on April 22, 2014. I like Neon Trees. Their last cd had some catchy tunes. (Suddenly I sound like I'm a 75-year old man in 1972). They had huge hits with Everybody Talks and Animal and Sleeping With a Friend should be another huge hit for them. Both the song and the video have a mid-80s feel about it but with [...]

Celebrities Read Mean Tweets is a very funny feature on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. It's a wonderfully simple idea and the name says it all: Celebrities read mean tweets that people have tweeted about them. The latest installment (the sixth) features Jon Hamm, Jennifer Garner, Tim Robbins, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Silverman, Rob Lowe, George Clooney, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Cate Blanchett and Matt Damon. Tim Robbins' reaction is priceless. I've yet to have anyone tweet something mean [...]
