My Play Around the World in 80 Days Turns 25 This week marks the 25th anniversary of the world premiere of my play Around the World in 80 Days. It's hard for me to fathom the popularity of my show. I was going to be happy to get one production, but it has become one of the most produced comedies of the past twenty-five years. What? I wrote it mostly on a whim, based on an off-the-cuff suggestion from a [...]
The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge at Florida Repertory Theatre I'm happy to say Florida Repertory Theatre will produce my play The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge this upcoming holiday season. The theatre produced my show Around the World in 80 Days years ago and did the first reading of my play The Gentleman Thief. If you're in the Fort Myers area this December, go check out the show. My kid needs a new pair of shoes. It will be directed [...]
A World Premiere of My New Play A Frosty Night It's been a minute since I last posted anything on my site!! Jeez. My big news is I'm having another world premiere. The second in a year. This times it's my play A Frosty Night. It's a commission from The Human Race Theatre (where This is Tom Jones! had its world premiere last year.) in Dayton, Ohio. The theatre has leaned into doing an adults only holiday show. They want [...]
This is Tom Jones Gets 9 BroadwayWorld Awards! Well this is fun news. The world premiere of my musical This is Tom Jones! received 13 BroadwayWorld nominations. The winners were announced recently and we won 9 awards! Not too shabby for a world premiere. And for a show that never had a reading or a workshop. Yeah, who thought that was a good idea? Here's what we won: Best Musical Best Ensemble Best Direction of a Musical Best Dance Production [...]
"This is Tom Jones! is a hilarious show!" I have waited a long time for my musical This is Tom Jones! to be produced. The show is finally getting its world premiere at The Human Race Theatre and the reviews have been sensational. “Brown’s new musical should spread like wildfire across the country, with its feel-good message, accessible lyrics, and continuous laughs." ~League of Cincinnati Theatres "This is Tom Jones!... is a wildly entertaining, pleasantly surprising and musically inviting experience [...]
Don Quixote Rides Again In The Quest For Don Quixote My show The Quest For Don Quixote is being produced by the Main Street Theatre Works in Jackson, CA. I'm honored to be part of their 20th anniversary at the Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre. The show is directed by Allen Pontes, who directed my show Around the World in 80 Days at Main Street Theatre back in 2009. The cast includes: Blair Leatherwood as Ben, the playwright. (I can't even lie and say the role [...]
I Live For Birthday Freebies There are very few things I like more than getting free stuff. And your birthday is the best time to get a lot of free stuff. It's super easy. All you have to do is take a few minutes to sign up for rewards clubs and when your birthday comes around, your inbox will be overflowing with birthday freebies. I suggest you set up a dedicated email address (I use my old AOL account) just for [...]
Prison Lament Here's a lyric video I put together for the song "Prison Lament" from my show Tom Jones the Musical. I wrote the song and then it took Paul about four hours to put together the arrangement. Tom has been found guilty of killing a man and sits in his prison cell, lamenting (see how I got the title of the song?) his fate. Paul, besides being the musical director for Pink and the TV show The Voice, also [...]
Spend the Night With Me Lyric Video I'm doing what I can to get my show Tom Jones the Musical out into the world, so I made a new lyric video for the song Spend the Night With Me. This song appears in the famous eating scene. Almost everyone I know who has seen the 1963 film version of Tom Jones talks about the eating scene. And everybody kept asking me if the eating scene was in my show. How [...]
You Can Now Stream the Tom Jones the Musical Album It's here! The concept album for my show Tom Jones the Musical is now out and available wherever you stream music. I really want to get this show out into the world. I'm really proud of what my good friend Paul Mirkovich and I did with the 1960s British Invasion-inspired music (I penned all the songs and he made them sound fantastic). And a huge thank you to all my [...]
