Actors Co-Op Goes Around the World in 80 Days Tonight Actors Co-Op in Hollywood, CA opens my play Around the World in 80 Days tonight. It's their final show of the season (And I hope my show doesn't make it the final show ever for them) and runs until June 14. I'm unable to make it to the opening. I have to be downtown at East West Players with my daughter, who is playing 10-year old Tommy in The Who's [...]
Des Moines Playhouse Goes Around the World in 80 Days Photo courtesy Steve Gibbons Des Moines Playhouse is producing my play Around the World in 80 Days. This may be an Iowa premiere but I'm not sure. And it may be the oldest theatre to produce the play. The Des Moines Playhouse was founded in 1919. You know what also happened in 1919? The Treaty of Versailles; the Weimar Republic came into existence in Germany; Mussolini formed the Fascist Party; Senate passed the Women's Suffrage [...]
Around the World in 80 Days at Actors Co-op Actors Co-op in Hollywood, CA is producing my play Around the World in 80 Days. The show runs from May 6 - June 14. It's the fifth and final show in its 2014-2015 season. I don't know much about Actors Co-op but m friend Peter Allen Vogt did Who Killed Edwin Drood? there last year. The show is being directed by Rhonda Kohl. I had coffee with her the other day and she couldn't have [...]
The Who's Tommy Opens at East West Players May 13 This the press release for the East West Players production of the Who's TOMMY. Now I usually don't post an entire press release but this one is a bit special to me. My daughter is playing 10-year old Tommy. Can I get a "what what" from everyone? I'm incredibly proud of my daughter for having the guts to audition for it. That she got it is a great bonus. When [...]
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre Whirlwind Tour Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre opened its season with a production of my play Around the World in 80 Days. From the reviews I've seen it seems they've put together a crackerjack production. "A madcap delight from beginning to end!" The show stars: Mark Torres as Fogg. Justin (Vowel cartel) Pietropaolo as Passepartout. John Long as Detective Fixx. Joe (Yes I am related to Justin) Pietropaolo as the cast of thousands. Amie Lytle as Aouda. [...]
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater - Around the World in 80 Days Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater kicks off their 2015 season with my play Around the World in 80 Days. Can I get a woot woot? Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater goes by the acronym WHAT. Please tell me they've done a Who's on First-esque routine for fundraisers. If you're in the Cape Cod area and can shovel your way out of your house, head on over to see the show. The show [...]
My Trip to Florida Rep The other week I had the privilege of visiting Florida Rep Theatre in Fort Myers, FL. The theatre was very gracious to fly me out for the weekend. Or very stupid to fly me out there. I saw their production of Around the World in 80 Days, did a couple of talkbacks with the audience, did a Q&A/talkback with the Florida Rep board, and had lunch with Artistic Director Robert Cacioppo and his wife Carrie Lund Cacioppo, [...]
Circle Theatre Company's Successful Run Congratulations to the Circle Theatre Company for their successful run of Around the World in 80 Days. How successful was it? Box-office records, baby. That's awesome. And I think it was student directed. But I'm not sure. CTC is located in Orlando and they did not one but two of my shows this year. Over the holidays they produced The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge. When I wrote both shows I wanted to make them so [...]
I'm Fort Myers Bound I'm heading to Fort Myers later this week to see Florida Rep's production of Around the World in 80 Days. Don't just take my word for it. It's also on Broadwayworld. "Florida Repertory Theatre has announced that Mark Brown, the critically acclaimed author of Around the World in 80 Days, will visit Fort Myers this weekend to see Florida Rep's production of his play." See? I'll also be doing some audience talkbacks. Again I defer to [...]
Florida Rep Set to go Around the World in 80 Days Florida Rep opens Around the World in 80 Days tonight. Woot. The production is directed by my good friend, Mark Shanahan. Mark recently directed the production of Around the World in 80 Days at TheatreSquared in Fayetteville, Arkansas. (That production had an extraordinary event that I don't think can ever be duplicated). Last spring Mark directed the world premiere of my play Tom Jones. He's also been in a couple [...]
