Watch the World Cup Final with Playwright Mark Brown

You can watch the World Cup Final with playwright Mark Brown The World Cup only comes around every four years so the opportunities to watch the World Cup final with playwright Mark Brown are very rare. Before he was an award winning playwright, Mark was a star soccer player. In fact, he was recruited to play soccer by a nationally ranked University (Appalachian State, 10th in the nation). Mark is also a lifelong fan of the German National Team. He [...]

Hosting a Discussion at Commonweal Theatre

On July 13 I'll be a guest speaker at the Commonweal Theatre as part of their popular Sunday Salon Series. "Part presentation and part audience discussion, Commonweal’s Sunday Salon series takes an opportunity to explore in greater depth some of the themes and historical contexts of Commonweal Theatre productions. Brown will share his journey of adapting one of Jules Verne’s most acclaimed works, while the cast of 80 Days will also be on hand to engage in the post-performance discussion." [...]

Two Openings – Around the World in 80 Days

Today there are not one but two openings of my play Around the World in 80 Days. The first one (it being on eastern time) is at The Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY. My good friend, Mark Shanahan, who directed the recent World Premiere of my play Tom Jones at the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, FL is reprising his role of Phileas Fogg. Mark was previously in a production at the Westport Country Playhouse and was terrific. The second [...]

Around the World in 80 Days – Turkey Teaser

I've posted a few times about my play Around the World in 80 Days being performed in Turkey. The show is in Erzurum right now . The season will end in May but the show will continue next season starting from September 2014 into the 2015 season. Here's another teaser of the production. Oh how I wish I could get over there to see it.

Around the World in 80 Days – a Whizzing Ride of Whimsy

A review of the American Stage Theatre's production of Around the World in 80 Days called it "a whizzing good time." My immature mind immediately goes to a different kind of whizzing but I'm happy about the good review. "American Stage's rollicking production of Mark Brown's adaptation of Jules Verne's famous novel will tickle you the way Monty Python did in its heyday. It is full of dry humor and double-takes, rubbery faces and razor-sharp repartee." My friend Brad DePlanche [...]

Around the World in 80 Days Opens at Arizona Theatre Company

For those of you in the Arizona area (and I'm looking at you Corinna Bertram), Around the World in 80 Days opens March 7 at the Arizona Theatre Company in Tucson. The production is directed by David P. Saar. He's won a fancy Governor's Arts Award for his contributions to the arts in Arizona. The show stars Mark Anders, Jon Gentry, the spectacularly named Yolanda London, Kyle Sorrell and Bob Sorenson. What I love about Arizona Theatre is they perform in two [...]

Google Translation of Erzurum State Theatre Production

There are a couple of articles about the Erzurum State Theatre production of Around the World in 80 Days. One is on diyadinnet.com. There's another one on haberciniz.com. I can't read Turkish so had to rely on Google translate. "Erzurum at the State Theatre stage receivables wrote Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days" will take place the player of the game for the first time the child...our game a thorough English gentleman of a man who circled the globe in 80 days [...]

B Street’s Around the World in 80 Days

The other week I posted about the B Street Theatre going to India with their production of Around the World in 80 Days. Today there's a nice article by Marcus Chowder in the Sacramento Bee about B Street's first international tour. I shall now magically pull the quotes that are most favorable to me. "Busfield pitched 'Lobby Hero' again and got nowhere. But when he told them about Mark Brown’s broadly performed satire 'Around the World in 80 Days,' they were [...]

Arizona Theatre Company Goes Around the World

I recently posted about productions of Around the World in 80 Days in India and Turkey but if you're not going to be passing by either of those countries you can stop by the foreign country of Arizona* to see 80 Days at the Arizona Theatre Company. The show is being directed by David P. Saar. The cast includes Mark Anders, Jon Gentry, Yolanda London, Kyle Sorrell and Bob Sorenson. I don't know any of those people. It always makes me [...]
