The Last Ship Opening This week my buddy Sting opened his show The Last Ship on Broadway. Besides many differences between the two of us -- okay, too many to list -- here's one of the big differences between Sting and me when it comes to opening a commercial show in NYC. Here's a picture of Sting at the opening of The Last Ship. Here's a picture of me at the opening of Around the World in 80 Days. Can [...]
Every now and then I Google myself. And that's not a euphemism. My curiosity gets the better of me and I like to see if I'm doing something out in the world that I don't know about. Seems a lot was going on. So here's the latest on what's happening to Mark Brown. Mark Brown Shoots a 59 A few weeks ago I shot an incredible 11-under 59 during the second round of the Carrus Tauranga in Wellington, New Zealand. I [...]
Meadow Brook Theatre Get Another Rave Review I've mentioned it a few times that Meadow Brook Theatre opened their 2014-15 season with Around the World in 80 Days. The production has been getting rave reviews. Now there's another rave from the Detroit Free Press. That makes four or five rave reviews, which leads me to ask - How many damn theatre critics are there in Detroit? The latest review is from The Detroit Free Press - "A winning mix of [...]
Around the World in 80 Days at Meadow Brook Meadow Brook Theatre's production of Around the World in 80 Days is going great guns. The production has received 4 rave reviews. The latest is from the Oakland Press - “Around the World in 80 Days” is a fun-filled, fast-paced adventure comedy!" Truth be told, I thought the Oakland Press was the name of a wrestling move named after Oakland Moon, King of the Grappling Hold. This production is the Michigan [...]
Meadow Brook Theatre Goes Around the World Meadow Brook Theatre opened its season with my play Around the World in 80 Days. I'm always excited when a theatre decides to do one of my shows and I'm extra excited when it's the first show of the season. I pray fiercely that the show kicks off a successful season. Meadow Brook Theatre's season seems to be getting off on the right foot. A couple of reviews have come out and they're [...]
Around the World in 80 Days at Meadow Brook Theatre My play Around the World in 80 Days kicks off the 2014-15 season at the Meadow Brook Theatre this week. It's a Michigan premiere and runs from Oct 1 - Oct 26. The Detroit Free Press has named it Best of the Best for this upcoming weekend. I think this is one of the productions that put me in the Top 10 Most-Produced Plays for the 2014 -15 season. The show [...]
Top 10 Most-Produced Plays of the 2014–15 Season I got back from vacation yesterday to discover my play Around the World in 80 Days has made American Theatre Magazine's Top 10 Most-Produced Plays of the 2014–15 Season. What the hell!? Pretty much my reaction to hearing the news. Talk about a nice surprise. Around the World in 80 Days joins such plays as Peter and the Starcatcher, Other Desert Cities and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. I join playwrights David Ives, John Patrick [...]
Dramatic Publishing I'm excited to announce that one of my publishers, Dramatic Publishing, is going to publish my play Tom Jones. Woot. It joins Around the World in 80 Days and The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge at Dramatic Publishing. I've had a long relationship with Dramatic Publishing. They were going to publish my first play The Little Prince but then the rights changed hands and I was forbidden by the new rights holder to have my version published or [...]
I had such a good time at the Commonweal Theatre and the town of Lanesboro, MN that I had to write two posts about it. The Town of Lanesboro A while ago I wrote about Lanesboro being named one 0f the Top Twelve Artplaces in the U.S., Yahoo naming it one of America's prettiest towns and it's distinction of being the Bed and Breakfast Capital on Minnesota. After a weekend there I can tell you it's true. First off, everyone [...]
In my Great American Theatre Talk-Back Tour of 2014, I landed at the Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro, MN for a weekend. If I had to describe Minnesota in a word it would be “spectacular.” If I had to describe it in two words it would be “f**king spectacular.” Which, by the by, should be Minnesota’s new tourism slogan: “Minnesota – F**king Spectacular.” The Commonweal Theatre generously flew me out to see their production of Around the World in 80 Days and [...]
