I recently posted about productions of Around the World in 80 Days in India and Turkey but if you’re not going to be passing by either of those countries you can stop by the foreign country of Arizona* to see 80 Days at the Arizona Theatre Company.
The show is being directed by David P. Saar. The cast includes Mark Anders, Jon Gentry, Yolanda London, Kyle Sorrell and Bob Sorenson. I don’t know any of those people. It always makes me shake my head in wonder and nervousness (I live my life in a state of nervousness) that people I don’t know have come together to do a show that I’ve written. I have to tell you, when I first wrote Around the World in 80 Days I didn’t think anyone was going to do it and I had no expectations that anyone was going to do it. Ever. So every production is amazing to me.
Arizona Theatre Company: A Tale of Two Cities
Arizona Theatre Company has been around since 1967 (almost as long as I’ve been around) and what I find fascinating about the theatre is that they perform in two different cities:
The Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix and The Temple of Music and Art in Tucson. How cool is that? Arizona Theatre Company brings theatre to two major cities. They could do a matinee in Phoenix, drive the two hours to Tucson, and then do an evening show. I wonder if they’ve ever tied two shows together that way? Probably a zillion times. I’m always late to the party.
The show dates are:
Tucson: March 1 – 22, 2014
Phoenix: March 27 – April 13, 2014
*I’m going to catch hell for that joke.
And look! Artistic Director David Ira Goldstein gives a fancy preview of the show.
