TheatreSquared Trip

TheatreSquared and Me I just got back from a whirlwind trip to TheatreSquared in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I had a brilliant time. TheatreSquared is currently producing my show Around the World in 80 Days. The theatre graciously invited me out to attend opening night, do talkbacks with audiences, and be a guest pontificator lecturer at a theatre MFA class. If you have never been to TheatreSquared, hop in the vehicle of your choice and hasten your bad self to Fayetteville, AR. Surprisingly, Fayetteville was [...]

Tahlequah Community Playhouse

Tahlequah Community Playhouse opens The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge   Tahlequah Community Playhouse's production of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge opens this week. Celebrating their 40th season, the Tahlequah Community Playhouse, is located in Tahlequah, OK, in the foothills of the Ozark mountains and smack dab in the middle of Cherokee County. First time director Juliet Burk is at the helm of this production. She's also the local podiatrist. Can I say she's a chiropodist? Is a podiatrist and a chiropodist the same thing? Juliet, what's [...]

The Good and Bad of Being Published

The Good and Bad of Being Published Getting your play published is thrilling and I get extremely excited when one of my publishers decides to publish one of my scripts. (I work with Dramatic Publishing and Samuel French). The reach of a good publisher is worth its weight in gold. Without a publisher I never would have had all the productions I've been fortunate to have. But one down side of it is you don't really know if people are reading [...]

The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge

The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge Inspired by Dramatic Publishing's post on Facebook today about Christmas quickly approaching, I thought I'd shamelessly post about my play The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge. I think it's a fun show with a lovely message. But then again I wrote it so I'm a bit biased. And who doesn't like watching ghosts on the witness stand? And who knew that the big old scary Ghost of Christmas is basically Woody Allen in a shroud, complaining [...]

Tom Jones To Be Published

Dramatic Publishing I'm excited to announce that one of my publishers, Dramatic Publishing, is going to publish my play Tom Jones. Woot. It joins Around the World in 80 Days and The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge at Dramatic Publishing. I've had a long relationship with Dramatic Publishing. They were going to publish my first play The Little Prince but then the rights changed hands and I was forbidden by the new rights holder to have my version published or [...]

Pics From DeSales University’s Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge

Steven Dennis, director of the DeSales University production of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, recently sent me a few pictures of the production. I have to say the production looks like it was awesome. Thanks to one and all who worked on this production. Jacob Marley all mad about something. The Spirit of Christmas Yet To Come complaining about the thickness of his shroud and The Translator.

Another Cancelled Show Because of Snow for DeSales University

Due to a snow storm, DeSales University had to cancel its final performance of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge today. It's the second tie this week a performance was cancelled. It's such a bummer for the kids who worked so hard. Hopefully they'll be able to add some performances. For those of you who wanted to see the show but couldn't, I found a slideshow of the show on Youtube. It needs music, but I quibble. [...]

Kudos to Southeast Alabama Community Theatre

I love seeing pictures of productions of my shows. Nancy Brooks, director of Southeast Alabama Community Theatre's production of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, sent these pictures to me. Congratulations to all and thanks for doing my show.           I particularly like this one. It looks like he's Cling or Clang from a live stage version of H.R. Puf n Stuf. I kid, I kid.   All Photos Courtesy of Matt Ray Photography

Nutley Little Theatre Puts Scrooge on Trial

The Nutley Little Theatre in Nutley, NJ will perform a reading of my script The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. This is from the Nutley Little Theatre website: Mark Brown's imagined sequel to Dickens’ famous “Christmas Carol” takes place a year after the title character’s miraculous transformation. But Scrooge is back to his old ways, suing Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future for breaking and entering, kidnapping, slander, pain and [...]

DeSales University – The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge

DeSales University in bucolic Center Valley, PA is doing The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge. Again. The university produced the show several years ago and they're actually doing it again. Fools. "Back by popular demand, a holiday classic—spun on its head. One year after Dickens’ classic tale, Ebenezer’s epiphany has waned and he’s returned to his curmudgeonly ways. He files suit against Jacob Marley and the Christmas ghosts for kidnapping, slander, and emotional distress. All of Dickens’ classic characters take the [...]
