Best Christmas Songs – Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)

Best Christmas Songs - Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight) "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)" by The Ramones is definitely on my 25 Days of Christmas Songs list. Sure, Burl Ives has his place in any Christmas song playlist but a Christmas playlist is not complete without a punk band on it. And what says Christmas better than a song that basically says, "Can we just make it through the holidays without killing each other?" Merry Christmas [...]

Best Christmas Songs – Christmas is Cancelled

Best Christmas Songs - Christmas is Cancelled "Christmas is Cancelled" by The Long Blondes is my lucky 13th song of my 25 Days of Christmas song list. Christmas is Cancelled - The Long Blondes The Long Blondes formed in Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2003. Things were going really well for them until 2008 when songwriter and lead guitarist Dorian Cox suffered a massive stroke. He was 27, that weird age when a lot of musicians have passed on. Brian Jones, Jimi [...]

Best Christmas Songs – If I Get Home On Christmas Day

Best Christmas Songs - If I Get Home On Christmas Day I missed posting about the best Christmas songs yesterday so here's the first of two for December 8. Elvis' "If I Get Home on Christmas Day," from the 1971 album Elvis Sings The Wonderful World of Christmas. If I Get Home On Christmas Day - Elvis What's Christmas without Elvis? Blue, I tell you. Blue. Although not as popular as his first Christmas album, the aptly named Elvis' Christmas [...]

Best Christmas Songs – “Just a Sad Xmas”

Best Christmas Songs - "Just a Sad Xmas" I'm heading into the vault for this one. I posted it last year so you know it deserves to be on your best Christmas songs playlist. "Just a Sad Xmas" by The Soul Duo is one of the finest soul Christmas tracks ever recorded. "Just a Sad Xmas" by Soul Duo Oh baby is this an out-of-sight song. Today is day 9 and I bring you "This Time of Year" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. This Time Of Year This is a fantastic song with a great message, if you'll allow me to be sappy. Forget all the presents, the shopping, and all the other commercial crap that [...]

Best Christmas Songs – A Great Big Sled

Best Christmas Songs - A Great Big Sled It's Day 7 of my yearly 25 Days of Christmas list, in which I list what I feel are the best Christmas songs to move your holiday a bit out of the old traditional chestnuts. A Great Big Sled - The Killers "A Great Big Sled" by The Killers is a -- excuse the pun -- a killer song. It was recorded in November 2006. The song features Toni Halliday, former lead vocalist of [...]

Best Christmas Songs – 8 Days of Hanukkah

Best Christmas Songs - 8 Days of Hanukkah Well, Day 6 of my 25 Days of Christmas Songs, in which I count down what I think are the best Christmas songs, has to take a brief detour. Today is the first day of Hanukkah so I thought I'd go with a Hanukkah song today. Now Hanukkah isn't known for its songs. In fact, none of the Jewish holidays are known for catchy songs. So the pickings are pretty slim. But I found [...]

Best Christmas Songs – Slashed Wrists This Christmas

Best Christmas Songs -Slashed Wrists This Christmas Since Fridays are my therapy days I thought I'd post a song I posted last year in my 25 Days of Christmas list. Slashed Wrists This Christmas - Gruff Rhys Oh sure, the holidays are all holly and jolly but where are the songs for the manic depressants? The songs for people like me who suffer from a mental illness or two? (Last count I was at four. I'm like a Vegas buffet of [...]
