Top 10 Most-Produced Plays of the 2014–15 Season
I got back from vacation yesterday to discover my play Around the World in 80 Days has made American Theatre Magazine’s Top 10 Most-Produced Plays of the 2014–15 Season.
What the hell!?
Pretty much my reaction to hearing the news.
Talk about a nice surprise. Around the World in 80 Days joins such plays as Peter and the Starcatcher, Other Desert Cities and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. I join playwrights David Ives, John Patrick Shanley and Christopher Durang. Of course none of them has ever invited me over for tea.
Second Time on the Top Ten Most-Produced Plays List
This is the second time I’ve made the Top Ten Most-Produced Plays list. I was on the 2009-2010 list, alongside Tennessee Williams, Thornton Wilder and Donald Margulies (I nudged out all of them. Ahem).
Suck it, Thornton Wilder.
It has been a long and enjoyable ride with this play and I’d like to thank all of the theatres that have produced my play.
Third Time on the Top Ten Most-Produced Plays List
So now that I’ve appeared twice on American Theatre Magazine’s Top 10 Most-Produced Plays I’d like to go for the hat-trick. But this time I’d like it to be with Tom Jones.
Here’s what the reviews have said:
“If you feel like laughing, it’s a ride worth taking!”
~ The Observer
“Clever, silly and highly theatrical!”
~ Sarasota Herald
“Tom Jones is good silly fun!”
~ Sarasota Magazine
“Laughs anyone? Go see FST’s Tom Jones!”
~ TotalTheatre dot com
“How Brown condenses a long picaresque novel into a two hour play is a miracle of mirth into motion!”
~ TotalTheatre dot com
“My kid needs a new pair of shoes so please produce this show!”
~ The Shameless Playwright
