Dunkin Donuts Santa Monica
When I first heard that Dunkin Donuts was coming to Santa Monica I did my happy donuts dance. I’m from the east coast and was weened on Dunkin Donuts. Of course I also come from a family of diabetics, but never mind that detail. Dunkin Donuts was coming to Santa Monica!
The opening was insane. People slept out to be one of the first to get their hands on those glorious cake donuts. The first customer waited in line 31-hours. Now I love Dunkin Donuts as much as the next guy but I’ll be damned if I’m going to wait outside for 31-hours.
So I let the initial excitement of the opening die away and made my way to DD a month after the opening.
That’s not me.
I have never seen a Dunkin Donuts so crowded. The line was about 20 deep. What the hell? No way does that happen in New Jersey. And people weren’t buying just a couple of donuts. I’d say 95% of the people were walking out with at least a dozen. Some people have talked smack about Dunkin Donuts coming to the west coast but obviously people are over the moon about the arrival. In fact, Dunkin Donuts is going to open 45 stores in Southern California. Oh be still my cholesterol filled heart.
There were people of all sizes there. Some came straight form yoga. Others out for a Sunday dozen. There was also three burly guys sporting their Buffalo Bills jerseys. I think they begrudgingly came to Dunkin Donuts because the couldn’t find a Tim Hortons.
We moved up the line and there was an employee handing out menus. What!? Give me a damn blueberry cake and a chocolate glazed. I don’t need no stinkin’ menu.
After we fought our way through the crowd to get outside, I bit into that blueberry cake. Oh. My. God. Heaven. If heaven was completely made of sugar.
