Around the World in 80 Days at Kelsey Theatre
Evidently the newly added Nudist Colony scene.
Two weeks ago my play Tom Jones opened at Butler College in Kansas. (I made a quick trip there to meet everyone). This week Maurer Productions opened my play Around the World in 80 Days at the Kelsey Theatre located at Mercer County Community College.
I have a great fondness for the Kelsey Theatre. It’s a stone’s throw from where I grew up. When I starting out in the business, I danced with three dance companies and we performed many times at the Kelsey Theatre.
Teamwork Dance Company
Let me back up for just a second.
Back in July I was in my hometown of Pennington, NJ for the last week of my mother’s life. Yeah, the trip was that much fun. My brother and I were in sitting in hospice with my mom. He was reading the paper and then said, “Hey, is this your show?” Sure enough, there was a notice for auditions for Around the World in 80 Days. So to take a break from watching my mom expire, I made a quick trip over to the auditions to say hi to everyone.
Obligatory long shot.
The people at Maurer Productions, John Maurer, Diana Gilman Maurer, Jane Coult, Judi Parrish, and Jeff Cantor, couldn’t have been lovelier. Well, Jeff Cantor could have been lovelier. He would have been the loveliest if he had brought baked goods.
The infamous Sledge Scene
I thanked them for doing the show, told them not to screw it up, and then went back to nail my mom to her perch.
Fast forward to Oct 9, 2015 and the opening night of the Maurer Productions’ production (Is that really how you say it) of Around the World in 80 Days. The show looks like it’s a lot of fun. The cast includes –
Maria Aromando as Aouda.
Dan Keyser as Phileas Fogg.
Kurt Penney as Passepartout.
John Pinto as Detective Fix.
Dan Slothower as 18 different characters.
I wish I could see the production. It looks like a hoot and a half. (It would have been two hoots if Cantor had brought Dunkin’ Donuts).
Thanks to everyone at Maurer Productions for putting on a great production of my script. Break many bones.
Who doesn’t like a guy in drag?
FYI
I discovered that if you Google “Maurer” and “80 Days” you get results about Dan Maurer who had his 80 pound scrotum removed. (I’d post photos about said 80 pound scrotum but I draw the line at 70 pounds).
