Ghostbusters Trailer a Bust

The new Ghostbusters Trailer has reached an epic milestone. As of this writing it is #18 in the Most Disliked Videos on Youtube. Wow. (FYI – Justin Bieber’s “Baby” featuring Ludacris is #1).

Ghostbusters Trailer

I’m thinking that making the most disliked list is not something the producers of the new Ghostbusters were aiming for. They keep saying it’s not a remake of that awesome original but a wholly new film that can stand on its own but it can’t and it doesn’t. Here’s what Melissa McCarthy had to say about the subject.

“I know it’s weird that they say

[in the trailer] ‘30 years ago’, but in this movie it’s like the first one didn’t happen. It’s a great story but it’s told totally differently. It’s four unlikely heroes, it’s in New York City, ghosts are taking over; it’s that same classic story but it’s not 30 years later … it’s not dependent on the first one.”

What!?

So why does the trailer open with “30 years ago four scientists saved New York?”

I love the original movie. When I lived in Orlando, for a while I performed in the Ghostbusters show at Universal. It has a wee tiny special place in my heart. I’m going to have a hard time with this new one.

What do you think of the Ghostbusters trailer?
