Since the premiere of my show Around the World in 80 Days, I've had to constantly deal with two misconceptions about the play: 1. There's a balloon in the story. 2. The leading character's name is Phineas. It got to be so much for me that my playwright's notes for The Colony Theatre's production of the show addressed both of these misconceptions. Bryce Ryness (Hair and Leap of Faith) has signed on to play Phileas Fogg in the Off-Broadway revival of my play Around the World in 80 Days. Sucker. I met Bryce back when he was doing Hair at the Public Theatre. He's a sweetheart of a guy and will be fantastic in the role.
Alabama Shakespeare will be producing Around the World in 80 Days April 19 - May 19. Get your tickets now. My kid needs a new pair of shoes. Anyhoo, they've put out a swanky study guide for the show. It's a pretty fun read. Get it here.
I originally wrote Around the World in 80 Days for five actors, but I'm always happy to see theatres like Lake Tahoe Community College employ larger casts. The production opens March 15.
