The Old Grey Lady

The Off-Broadway production of my play Around the World in 80 Days is in the Old Grey Lady today. Woot! This isn't the first time the show has made it to the New York Times. In 2009 there was a lovely review of the Westport Country Playhouse production in which the Times said the show was "polished, fast-paced, unabashedly theatrical (in the best sense of the word)." In 2011, The Times reviewed the Hudson Valley Shakespeare production and said  "Around [...]

John Gregorio Joins 80 Days Cast

John Gregorio is the new Passepartout in the Off-Broadway production of my play Around the World in 80 Days. He replaces Leo Ash Evans, who had to leave the production to continue his role in the newly extended Finks. I see where your allegiance lies, Evans. Oh I have my eye on you. Previews start May 9 at The New Theater at 45th Street. Opening is May 30. More info can be found at the show's website.

Around the World in 80 Days Website

The Off-Broadway production of my play Around the World in 80 Days has launched its swanky website. A few days ago I wrote a post called Hats and Mustaches, about popular images associated with the show. (The balloon is the big winner, even though there's not a balloon in the story. Oh don't get me started.) I posted a picture from the upcoming Off-Broadway production but it wasn't the complete picture. I finally saw the full image on the production's [...]

Happy Opening Alabama Shakespeare

I want to wish the cast and crew of Around the World in 80 Days at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival a happy opening night. I hope it's a successful run. My kid needs new shoes.

The Coaster Theatre

A big shout out to The Coaster Theatre in Cannon Beach, Oregon and their production of Around the World in 80 Days. "The production is fast paced enough to be enjoyed by all ages, and that is really what this play is meant to be: a cheerful, family-friendly comedy." Thanks for doing my show. I hope you all had fun.

Alabama Shakespeare Festival Nails It

Okay Alabama Shakespeare Festival, I forgive you for using a balloon in your poster. This commercial for your upcoming production is fantastic. The casting for Fogg and Fix are spot on (In my perfect world, Fogg is played by either Ralph Fiennes or Alan Rickman and Fix is played by Stephen Fry. A boy can dream.) and the costumes are gorgeous. If the rest of the show looks like this, it's going to be a fantastic production. I rarely see [...]

Hats and Mustaches

My play Around the World in 80 Days is not about a balloon. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, "Es gibt nicht ein ballon in dem buch und es gibt nicht ein ballon in meiner show." Well, I don't usually say it in German.  The balloon is the most popular image associated with the story and I'm sure people are disappointed to discover there isn't a balloon in the show or the book. The same [...]

Alabama Shakespeare Festival

Alabama Shakespeare Festival will present Around the World in 80 Days as part of Montgomery Theatre Week in Montgomery, AL April 18 - 21. Now I don't want to pick nits here but April 18 - 21 is not a week. It's not even a work week. Maybe they should rename it Montgomery Theatre Long Weekend. And I love ASF's poster for the show. A balloon. The balloon scenes in my play are probably the most dramatic and suspenseful. I'm quite proud [...]
