Maurer Productions has put together a slam bam production. The production received a nice review. It’s also one of the strangest reviews I’ve ever seen.
“But this is a director’s show and John Maurer has a wonder time (sic) using all of the tools at his command. You should now (sic) that he is also a fine magician, clown, juggler, stilt-walker and balloon sculptor.”
Um…ok?
But what John Maurer has done brilliantly is bring an amazing amount of creativity to the show. I wrote the show for five actors to play thirty-nine characters. What John did was take a company picture with everyone as each of their characters. A little photoshop magic and you get a cast the size of Nicholas Nickleby. In the fourteen years the show has been running I’ve never seen this done.
Pretty cool, huh?
The show also has the coolest program. According to the wacky review –
“The program, you see, is in the form of a four-page copy of the evening edition of The London Times, dated Wednesday October 2, 1872. The front page has articles about a man who apparently has successfully stolen more than 50,000 pounds from a London bank; the possibility of future travel by balloon; and the outrageous story of a man attempting to circumnavigate the entire globe in just 80 days.”
Again, I’ve never seen that done before.
Even I Am Mentioned
This is the first show of mine to produced in my hometown area.
“And now it’s a play by Mark Brown, a native of Pennington, now living in Los Angeles who visited rehearsals during the final week and actually added a few lines of dialogue to the work.”
I was originally referred to as Mark Bender but the good people at Maurer Productions made sure it was corrected. How you get Bender out of Brown is a mystery to me.
So please support Maurer Productions and go see the show.
