I’m happy to say Florida Repertory Theatre will produce my play The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge this upcoming holiday season. The theatre produced my show Around the World in 80 Days years ago and did the first reading of my play The Gentleman Thief. If you’re in the Fort Myers area this December, go check out the show. It’s been a minute since I last posted anything on my site!! Jeez.  My big news is I’m having another world premiere. The second in a year.

This times it’s my play A Frosty Night. It’s a commission from The Human Race Theatre (where This is Tom Jones! had its world premiere last year.) in Dayton, Ohio.  The theatre has leaned into doing an adults only holiday show. They want people to come out and see something other than A Christmas Carol.

Emily Wells, the artistic director at The Human Race Theatre, approached me about writing a show for them. I pitched her a few ideas and we landed on A Frosty Night. It’s a comedy about a love triangle with Mrs. Claus, a certain Snowman, and that snowman’s human wife, Sharon. Love, life, and friendship are at risk in a comedy about infidelity, secrecy, lies and the choices we make.

I just finished a weeklong workshop of the show and I’m thrilled with the shape of the script.

The Cast and Director

The cast is going to be amazing. Christine Brunner, Mierka Girten, and Tim Lile will play Mrs. Claus, Sharon, and a certain snowman. Emily Wells, who also directed This Is Tom Jones! will be directing.

Well this is fun news. The world premiere of my musical This is Tom Jones! received 13 BroadwayWorld nominations. The winners were announced recently and we won 9 awards! Not too shabby for a world premiere. And for a show that never had a reading or a workshop. Yeah, who thought that was a good idea?

I have waited a long time for my musical This is Tom Jones! to be produced. The show is finally getting its world premiere at The Human Race Theatre and the reviews have been sensational.

I can’t begin to tell you how happy this makes me. And how relieved I am. I was starting to think no one was going to produce it. But Emily Wells at the Human Race Theatre in Dayton, OH loved the music from the second she heard it. She read the script and thought it was very funny. Several months later I was in Dayton at rehearsals. Rewriting. Cutting songs. And just overall honing the show. I’m really happy with where the script is right now.

The audiences have been loving it. Standing ovations every night. People leaving the theatre saying they haven’t laughed that much in a very long time. And attendance from opening night until the final week has gone up by about 30%.

I started this projected years ago with my friend Paul Mirkovich. So long ago that Paul hadn’t even started his job as the musical director for the TV show The Voice. He has shot 27 seasons! It’s been that long since I started writing this script.

I always felt I had written a fun script with catchy music. But certainly not your usual musical. So I was only sightly terrified when we went into rehearsals in August. What if I was wrong and the show was actually crap? Maybe all those other theatres passed on the show because it wasn’t a very good script.

But this world premiere run has proven that I was right. I have written a good script with fun music. I sometimes feel like a jerk for saying that something I created is good. But I think one can take pride in what they do and be able to say, “Yeah, what I did is good.”

My show The Quest For Don Quixote is being produced by the Main Street Theatre Works in Jackson, CA. I’m honored to be part of their 20th anniversary at the Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre.

The show is directed by Allen Pontes, who directed my show Around the World in 80 Days at Main Street Theatre back in 2009.

Blair Leatherwood as Ben, the playwright. (I can’t even lie and say the role is loosely based on me. It’s pretty much completely me)

With help/pressure from his agent and a possible near-lethal dose of caffeine and Xanax, Starbucks transforms, with patrons becoming characters in the rapidly developing story. With windmills, horses, and demons, this fast-paced comedy is sure to keep the audience on the edge of their camp chairs.”

There are very few things I like more than getting free stuff. And your birthday is the best time to get a lot of free stuff. It’s super easy. All you have to do is take a few minutes to sign up for rewards clubs and when your birthday comes around, your inbox will be overflowing with birthday freebies. I suggest you set up a dedicated email address (I use my old AOL account) just for all of the programs. They’ll send you stuff all year long and it can junk up your regular email inbox pretty quickly.

Now let me say this. Almost all of my friends give me a hard time about all of the freebies I get. And most are convinced I lie to restaurants just to get some free food. Here’s a lyric video I put together for the song “Prison Lament” from my show Tom Jones the Musical. I wrote the song and then it took Paul about four hours to put together the arrangement.

Tom has been found guilty of killing a man and sits in his prison cell, lamenting (see how I got the title of the song?) his fate.

Paul, besides being the musical director for Pink and the TV show The Voice, also used to be in the bands Nelson and Whitesnake. He got to tap into his 80’s hair band vocals for the recording. And did he warm up? No. Kids, don’t try this at home.

I’m doing what I can to get my show Tom Jones the Musical out into the world, so I made a new lyric video for the song Spend the Night With Me.

This song appears in the famous eating scene. Almost everyone I know who has seen the 1963 film version of Tom Jones talks about the eating scene. And everybody kept asking me if the eating scene was in my show. How could I not have it in the show?

If you haven’t seen the film, the eating scene is where Tom Jones and Mrs. Waters express their lust for each other by tearing into a huge feast.

I originally wrote a song about British foods that sound naughty. You know, spotted dick, cockaleekie soup, toad in the hole. But Paul and I decided to go with a sexier song. Voila, Spend the Night With Me.

We did a live version of it a few years ago with Jennifer Sun Bell and Eric B Anthony. It was a spectacular performance from the two of them.

It’s here! The concept album for my show Tom Jones the Musical is now out and available wherever you stream music.

I really want to get this show out into the world. I’m really proud of what my good friend Paul Mirkovich and I did with the 1960s British Invasion-inspired music (I penned all the songs and he made them sound fantastic). And a huge thank you to all my friends who gave up their free time to record the songs and get paid in bagels. (If the songs stream enough, I’ll actually be able to pay them).

Some days I feel like Sisyphus with this show, but I haven’t come this far to only get this far. If you could help me out I’d really appreciate it. It’ll only take a couple of minutes, won’t cost you a thing, and will make a huge difference for me.
